Weekly Tip #3 ~ Reading Together

Preparation:
Schedule a date this week for when you'll have 15 - 30 uninterrupted minutes together. Make the date and KEEP it no matter how tired you are. This is the first step to reconnecting . . .

While you're waiting for Date Night (or Date Day!) to arrive, select a book or magazine that you'd like to share with your mate. The subject matter can be anything you like from romance-oriented to poetry, a novel, a magazine article etc. It does NOT have to be about romance to enjoy this date.

The Date:
Sit together comfortably; nestle if possible. Read aloud from your chosen material. If you're the listener, soak in the sound of your mate's voice. If you're the reader, read slowly and softly. Enjoy the time alone with the quiet sound of your voices. If you have time, take turns reading or pause periodically to discuss what you've read.

If you have little ones who are still up, gather them with you, select appropriate reading material and read as a family. Ideally, Mom and Dad will have their date after the kids are asleep. However, if this isn't possible this week, do the date as a family. It can be romantic to watch your mate snuggled up with the kids, enjoying their time together.

If you can arrange it, try a trip to the bookstore with your mate. Browse the shelves, share a coffee . . . enjoy the peace and quiet.

Time Involved:
Spend at least 15 minutes, preferably 30 or more.

Cost:
Absolutely nothing unless you need a trip to the bookstore for reading material.

Follow-up:
How did it go? Did you enjoy the time together? Did you keep the date? Did you learn something new about each other in your choices of reading material? Have you scheduled time for next week?

See you next week!
